Moses Mutisya, Trans Nzoia County Police Commander

Police officers in Kitale, Trans Nzoia County have dismissed social media allegations that Sam Ouma Wanda, aย  detainee at Kitale Main prison died in police cells.

Speaking to Horizon News, Trans Nzoia County Police Commander, Moses Mutisya said Ouma succumbed to illness while being treated at Wamalwa Kijana Teaching and Referral Hospital.

The police boss further denied claims that the deceased was assaulted in the Kitale Police Station cell.

โ€œSamson Ouma did not die in police cells. He died at Wamalwa Kijana Referral Hospital where he was being attended to,โ€ said Mutisya.

At the same time, he warned bloggers who have been sending unverified information all over the social media that the late diedย  while in the police cell.

โ€œIt is irresponsible to spread unverified information through social media. Please, share what is factual and not propaganda,โ€ warned the police commander.

Speaking separately to the press, Edward Omondi the uncle of the deceased denied the police report arguing that their kin was in good health and spirits when he was arrested.

Omondi said his nephew was the sole breadwinner of his young family and supported his aging mother.

โ€œWe are not satisfied with what the police officers told us and we demand answers. We want to know who killed Sam and Why. We also demand justice for our kin,โ€ Omondi said.

Sam Ouma Wanda was arrested on 7 September, 2025,ย  presented in court on 8 September 2025 before being taken to Kitale main Prison remand on September 9 and died on 16 September, 2025.
