SUBJECT: NOMINATION OF LEARNERS FOR ARTS AND SPORTS SCIENCE PATHWAY IN SENIOR SCHOOL
1.0 Beginning January 2026, Learners who are currently in Grade 9 will be placed into three Senior School pathways based on their demonstrated potential, achievements, and future aspirations
2.0 The senior school pathways include (i) Arts and Sports Science, (ii) Social Sciences, and (iii) STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).
3.0ย To actualize this, the Ministry of education will employ the most effective mechanisms to ensure that learners are effectively placed in the pathways
4.0 The identification of learnersโ potential and talents for placement in the Arts and Sports Science Pathway requires specialized approaches beyond traditional academic assessment methods.
Learners often demonstrate exceptional abilities, talents, and interests in areas such as music, dance, theatre, visual arts, and sports that cannot be fully captured through conventional assessments.
It is therefore critical to adopt holistic and evidence-based approaches to recognize these talents and potentials for appropriate pathway placement.
5.0 Nomination of Learners
5.1 To facilitate this process, the Ministry of Education has developed a Nomination Tool to guide teachers in nominating learners who exhibit strong potential in the above domains (Music, Dance, Theatre, Visual Arts, and Sports) for placement in Arts and Sports Science Pathway in Senior School
5.2 Schools are hereby required to nominate Grade 9 learners who have demonstrated exceptional potential and talents in any of the following components of Creative Arts and Sports: Music and Dance, Theatre, Visual Arts or Sports who could be placed in Arts and Sports Science Pathway to actualize their potentials
6.0 Online Data Capture and Submission of the nominated Grade 9 Learners
6.1 Schools are required to log in to the official portal, https://nomination.knec.ac.ke/ using their school code as username and password.
6.2 Upon successful login for the first time, you will be prompted to change the password and proceed to access the instructions and user manual, which provides step-by-step guidance on navigating the portal for learner nominations.
6.3 After reading the instructions, schools should proceed to submit the details of nominated learners through the online data capture/nomination form.
6.3 The deadline for these submissions is Friday, 17th October 2025.
6.4 Schools are strongly advised to read the instructions in the learner nomination form carefully before completing submissions.
6.5 Each form must be completed objectively and only for learners who have demonstrated exceptional ability in the specified domains
7.0 Accuracy and Credibility in Reporting
7.1 Schools are required to provide sincere and accurate information when filling out the nomination forms.
To ensure credibility and fairness in learner placement, every entry must be supported by relevant evidence(s) that validates the learnerโs abilities and potential.
This evidence(s) which is to be uploaded in the formats prescribed in the nomination tool include:
7.1.1 Records of competitions and awards.
7.1.2 Participation in performances, productions, and exhibitions.
7.1.3 Originality of works and presentations,
7.2 Head of institutions are required to give this exercise utmost priority as it will inform proper learner placement to ensure that talents and potentials are nurtured in line with the mission of Competency Based Education in Kenya
