A 21-year-old automotive engineering student from Kuria, Migori County, has become the third winner of KES 1 million in Coca-Colaโ€™s ongoing Funua Flava Under the Crown promotion.

Emmanuel Kerario Gikumi, a second-year Mechanical and Automotive Engineering student at Mabera Technical and Vocational College, said the windfall has come as a huge relief.

โ€œI have been struggling to register for exams due to lack of school fees. With this win, I can now focus on completing my certificate course and enrolling for a diploma next year,โ€ said Gikumi after receiving his cheque from Coca-Cola, presented by George Kerina, the companyโ€™s Bottler Kenya Area Sales Manager for Mabera Region.

The Nyamagagana Village native added that part of the money will go towards supporting his siblingsโ€™ education and helping his parents expand their businesses.

Gikumi recalled how he joined the promotion after seeing an advert on TV.

โ€œI bought a 300ml Fanta and sent the code under the crown to 40111. At first, I won data bundles. When a friend of mine won KES 10,000, I decided to keep tryingโ€”and thatโ€™s how I eventually received the call that I had won the grand prize.โ€

He now joins previous million-shilling winners, Lauryne Jemutai Birir from Baringo County and Jacob Ochieng Liech from Kisumu County.

Coca-Cola announced that the Funua Flava promotion, which runs until November 15, will unveil nine more millionaires. โ€œIn addition to the KES 1 million grand prize, participants also stand a chance to win instant airtime, data bundles, and cash rewards ranging from KES 100 to KES 100,000. This campaign reflects our commitment to rewarding consumers for their loyalty,โ€ said Kerina.

The promotion, launched on August 15, requires consumers to buy a 300ml glass bottle of Coca-Cola, Sprite, Fanta, Stoney, Krest, or Schweppes, check under the yellow cap for a unique code, and SMS it to 40111.
