Lugari MP Nabii Nabwera pays his last respects to the late Prof. John Hamu Habwe, announcing plans to establish a memorial library at Mugunga Secondary School to honor the scholarโ€™s enduring legacy in education.

Lugari Member of Parliament Nabii Nabwera has announced plans to establish a library in memory of the late Professor John Hamu Habwe, a renowned scholar at the University of Nairobi.

Speaking during the burial service, Nabwera described the late academic as a candid and fearless intellectual who was never shy about offering constructive criticism, even to him.ย โ€œHe embodied intellectual honesty and integrity,โ€ย the MP said, adding that Prof. Habwe was both a personal friend and a trusted sounding board on national issues.

The legislator revealed that the John Habwe Library will be built at Mugunga Secondary School in Lugari sub-county as a lasting tribute to the professorโ€™s contribution to education.

Nabwera also underscored the importance of sustained investment in education, citing progress made in the constituency over the past three years.ย โ€œWhen I assumed leadership, fewer than 200 students from Lugari were joining universities annually. Today, the figure stands at over 800,โ€ he noted. He further pointed to significant improvements in school infrastructure, with modern classrooms replacing outdated and dilapidated facilities.

The send-off was attended by Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Oparanya, County MP Elsie Muhanda, senior county officials, and representatives of the national government, who joined locals in celebrating Prof. Habweโ€™s life and legacy.

Prof. Habwe, remembered as a respected academic and mentor, leaves behind a reputation for integrity, scholarship, and service that his community now seeks to preserve through education.
