A 29-year-old woman is fighting for her life after setting herself on fire in an apparentsuicide attempt in Emali town, Makueni County.

Nzaui Sub-County Police Commander Agnes Kunga confirmed the Thursday morningincident, saying police received a report at around 8:45 am that a woman had setherself ablaze.

Upon visiting the scene, officers established that the woman had been living in Nairobiwith her husband before they separated a month ago. She later moved to Emali to staywith her relatives, where she attempted to end her life.

“She was rushed to hospital, and upon arrival doctors confirmed that she had sustained70 percent burns on her body,” said PC Kunga. Close family sources disclosed that thewoman has been battling depression.

Kelvin Mutunga, a clinician who attended to her at around 9 am, said first aid wasadministered and she was stabilized. “She is currently in a stable condition andarrangements are underway to transfer her to Kenyatta National Hospital for specializedtreatment,” he noted.
