Willis Raburuโs ex-wife, Marya Prude, has candidly reflected on the struggles she faced in rebuilding her life after their highly publicised separation.
Speaking on The Wind Down, Marya revealed that the collapse of her marriage left her devastated and forced her to move back home.
โWhen we got separated, I moved in with my folks. I felt like my whole world was crashing, and I didnโt know who to be,โ she said.
She recalled that it was her father who came to pick her up from her matrimonial home after she reached out for help, describing the moment as โvery dramatic.โ
Marya admitted that the divorce process took a heavy toll on her. She lived with her parents for over a year and a half, unable to afford her own place as the case dragged through the courts.
She also described the unusual way she was served with divorce papers:
โThis thing was sent on my WhatsApp, and I was like, โOh.โ Then you have to acknowledge it. I knew it was coming, so I sent it to my lawyer. I even texted my ex and told him, โI see this is the direction youโve decided to go, I respect it, and from now on communication will be through my lawyer.โโ
Although she anticipated the divorce, receiving the papers still came as a shock.
In past interviews, Marya has admitted regretting her decision to marry at just 23 years old, saying she succumbed to societal pressure.
โI donโt know what I was thinking! I would be so far right now if I wasnโt busy serving society and other peopleโs expectations of me as a married woman,โ she once shared.
She now considers marriage โoverratedโ and no longer views it as a measure of achievement.
Marya and Raburu tied the knot in May 2017 but endured tragedy when they lost their daughter in December 2019. By 2020, the marriage had broken down, eventually leading to divorce.
Raburu has previously admitted that they rushed into marriage, saying he initiated the process.
โNobody goes into a marriage with hopes to come out. It was painful, and I donโt wish it on anyone,โ the TV host once said.
Today, Raburu has found stability with Ivy Namu, with whom he shares two children. Marya, meanwhile, continues her personal healing journey and is focusing on self-growth.
Her recent reflections highlight how difficult the process was but also show that she has found peace with the past and is determined to move forward on her own terms.
