Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano has hailed a fresh milestone for Kenyaโ€™s tourism sector, announcing a surge in international flights into Mombasa.

Speaking in her latest briefing, Miano revealed that over the past few weeks, the coastal city has welcomed three chartered flights every Thursday, alongside five weekly flights from Italy. She described the development as โ€œa remarkable milestone for Kenya.โ€

โ€œThis is not just a win for Mombasa, but strong evidence of the growing global recognition of Kenya as a premier travel destination,โ€ she said.

Miano credited the growth to the leadership of President William Ruto, under whose administration access to Mombasa has expanded. According to Miano, the increasing frequency of international arrivals is proof of tourismโ€™s undeniable upward trend.

โ€œThese efforts are opening doorsโ€”literally and figurativelyโ€”for Kenya to shine on the world stage, showcasing our rich culture, breathtaking landscapes, and unmatched hospitality,โ€ she emphasized.

Miano extended a warm invitation to international visitors, encouraging them to experience the magic of Kenya. From the pristine beaches of Mombasa to the iconic savannahs of the Maasai Mara, she noted, the country offers adventure, relaxation, and cultural immersion in equal measure.

She also urged Kenyans to continue supporting the sector, describing tourism as both a key pillar of the economy and a source of national pride. โ€œThis is just the beginning. Together, weโ€™re building a brighter, more connected future for Kenya,โ€ she remarked.

Kenyaโ€™s tourism industry remains one of the nationโ€™s top foreign exchange earners, though it faced steep challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic. The recent surge in chartered flights is being celebrated as a clear signal of recovery and renewed global confidence in Kenya as a destination of choice.

Miano concluded her remarks on an optimistic note, calling for momentum to be sustained: โ€œLetโ€™s keep the momentum going!โ€
