Former senior presidential economic adviser Moses Kuria has issued a stern warning, saying Kenya risks heading into dangerous territory if change is not carefully managed.
Speaking on the principles of transformation and governance on his X account on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, Kuria emphasized that while reforms are essential, they can quickly descend into chaos if leaders fail to handle them with wisdom and inclusivity.
He reminded the public of a timeless rule in change management: โManage change or change will manage you.โ
The former Gatundu South MP opined that the issue of Kenya is not a lack of revolutionary or revolutionary ideas, but poor management of how such reforms are conducted and rolled out. He emphasized that in the absence of a deliberate and disciplined rollout, even the best-laid reforms would fail on their faces because of confusion, resistance, and unintended consequences.
Moses Kuria warned that even the most benign policies can spiral out of control if leaders drive them without engaging citizens or considering their implications.
โKenya is facing a huge problem, not one of change and transformation, but that of change management. Even the best and well-intentioned transformative ideas can lead to anarchy and conflagration if change is not well managed,โ Kuria wrote.
Kuria pointed out that Kenya still has a window of opportunity to steer the country in the right direction, but warned that time is slipping away.
โWe still have time, but it is dangerously running out,โ he said.
