The Kenya National Examinations Council, (KNEC) has been urged to ensure that this year’s national examinations are conducted strictly in line with the law to avoid subjecting candidates to unnecessary stress.

The call comes as thousands of learners across the country enter the final stretch of preparations for the 2025 national examinations.

Speaking in Narok Town, Narok County Member of Parliament Rebecca Tonkei expressed concern over reports of distressing experiences faced by candidates during last year’s exams, warning that such incidents should not be repeated.

“As a member of the education committee, I am well aware of the procedures that must be followed,” said Tonkei. “I will closely monitor the process to ensure that candidates sit their exams smoothly and without any form of interference.”

Tonkei, who sits on the Parliamentary Committee on Education, emphasized the importance of upholding examination regulations to protect students’ rights and academic integrity.

She vowed to follow up the matter to its conclusion, stating: “We cannot allow a repeat of last year’s mishandling. Our students must be allowed to focus on their exams in a stress-free environment.”

Her remarks add to growing public interest and scrutiny over the upcoming national tests, which often shape the future of thousands of learners.
