A bodyguard attached to a Member of Parliament was arrested after he lost his gun while in a bar in Eldoret Town, Uasin Gishu County.
The corporal of police attached to Moiben MP Phylis Bartoo told police he was at Timber XO Club in Sukunanga area with a friend on Saturday September 6 night when he realized his Beretta pistol loaded with 15 bullets was missing.
He said he could not recall how and where it went missing. A search was conducted at the club in vain.
Police visited the bar and conducted further search but did not recover the weapon. It was then a decision was made to detain the officer pending further processing.
Police fear the weapon may be used in committing crimes elsewhere.
This is the latest such incident to happen in a week involving a police officer. Last week, a police officer was arrested after he lost his rifle in Meru County.
The officer was later produced in court where police were allowed to detain him pending the investigations.
Teams in the area and elsewhere are investigating the saga as the search for the weapon goes on, police said on Monday.
Meanwhile, police are investigating an incident where a businessman was shot and injured in a robbery in Embu Town on Sunday dawn.
The victim told police he was walking home from his premises when he was confronted by gunmen who were in a car.
The gang then shot him in the left thigh as they robbed him of his laptop which also had Sh50,000 from his businesses.
The gang later jumped back to their car and drove off to an unknown destination. The victim was rushed to hospital where he was admitted in stable condition, police said.
Police said they are hunting for the suspects behind the shooting.
