Police in Eldoret have launched investigations after a government-issued pistol belonging to a security officer attached to Moiben MP Phylis Bartoo went missing under unclear circumstances.

The officer, identified as Corporal Silas Kiptoo, allegedly misplaced the firearm on Sunday night while drinking with friends at Timba XO Club in Sukunanga, just one kilometre from Naiberi Police Station.

The missing weapon, a pistol with 15 rounds of ammunition, has raised serious concerns over negligence and security risks.

According to Uasin Gishu County Police Commander Benjamin Mwanthi, Kiptoo realized the firearm was missing at around 10:00 p.m. He immediately reported the matter to his superiors the same night.

Preliminary investigations show the officer was drinking in the company of two friends, identified as Smirth and Arap Ngetich, before discovering the pistol was no longer in his possession.

Commander Mwanthi confirmed that the officer will face disciplinary and legal action once investigations are concluded. He further emphasized that cases of negligence involving government firearms are treated with the utmost seriousness.
