“Hello everyone, I want to sincerely apologise for the video I shared after Harambee Starsโ€™ loss to Madagascar in the CHAN tournament.

“I realise it came across as insensitive and disappointing, especially at a time when the entire nation was hurting. It was a lapse in judgment on my part, and I deeply regret the impression it created,” he stated in part.

Although he later deleted the video, Haki admitted that the backlash had served as an important lesson for him.

“As a Kenyan football player, I know better is expected of me. My actions were unpatriotic, in bad taste, and not a true reflection of the respect I have for Harambee Stars, the players, the coaches, and the millions of fans who proudly stand behind our team,” he added, appealing to Kenyans to accept his sincere apology.

On the pitch, his club Murangโ€™a Seal endured a disappointing 2024/2025 Kenya Premier League season, finishing 13thโ€”only two points clear of bottom-placed City Stars.

Kenya came close to reaching the CHAN 2024 semi-finals after Gor Mahia defender Alphonse Omiha gave them the lead early in the second half. However, Madagascar levelled through a penalty awarded for a handball.

With no winner after extra time, the clash was decided on penalties, where misses by Omiha and Michael Kibwage handed Madagascar the decisive victory.

The loss cost Harambee Stars players a Ksh1 million cash prize and the chance to receive an Affordable Housing unit from the government. Still, President William Ruto pledged a special appreciation package to honour their impressive campaign.

After the August 22 match, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki relayed the Presidentโ€™s message to the team, praising their determination and highlighting the sense of pride and unity they inspired across the nation.
