Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has issued a stern warning to Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua ahead of his scheduled return from the United States on Thursday, citing intelligence reports of potential unrest.
Speaking during the 30th Jukwaa la Usalama forum in Murangโa County on Tuesday, Murkomen said security agencies are on high alert and indicated that Gachagua could face arrest if he attempts to disrupt peace in Nairobi.
โThe last time he was around, there were so many goons in the name of protests. We were very prepared, and every minute the National Police Service is ready to protect citizens and their property,โ Murkomen said.
Gachaguaโs party has reportedly called for over one million supporters to gather at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) for his arrival. The government, however, views this as a potential attempt to disrupt normal business activities in Nairobi.
โWe are aware of elements planning disruptions, threatening football matches, and other public activities. I need to say that we will take legal action,โ Murkomen added. He also emphasized that the government will closely monitor Gachaguaโs political movements nationwide.
โThe security agencies should be prepared for a more chaotic environment due to his return. The security sector is ready to address any insecurity issues,โ he noted.
In a related crackdown, the Interior Ministry has confiscated both unadulterated ethanol and counterfeit liquor worth over Ksh 3 million from a notorious businessman in Murangโa County, as part of the 100-day campaign against alcohol abuse announced earlier this week.
The Jukwaa la Usalama forum is set to continue in Nyandarua County on Wednesday.
