Nairobi has been named Africaโs leading business travel destination at this yearโs 26th Annual World Travel Award (WTA).
The Kenyan capital emerged the winner after beating other popular African cities including Cairo (Egypt), Lagos (Nigeria), Accra (Ghana), and South Africa’s Cape Town, Durban, Johannesburg and Pretoria.
Nairobi scooped the top award for the second time having been named Africa’s leading business travel destination in 2016.
โThis is great news not only for Nairobi but Kenya as a whole. Our vision is to transform Nairobi into Africaโs economic power hub,โ Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko said.
โWe will work towards achieving infrastructure development, cleaning and ensuring the sustainable green environment, beautifying and lighting the Central Business District,โ Sonko added.
Nairobi’s Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC) was voted Africaโs Leading Meetings and Conference destination after beating South Africa’s Durban Convention Centre, which has held the title for the last nine years.
โWe are honored to receive these awards. The awards truly attest to the fact that Nairobi and KICC offer the best MICE experience in the region,โ said KICC CEO Nana Gecaga.
The national airline, Kenya Airways clinched two awards โ Africaโs Leading Airline in Business Class Category and Leading Economy Class Category.
