A car owner whose vehicle was allegedly involved in a robbery incident at Parklands pleaded with the Milimani Law Court on September 10 for its release.

The vehicle is currently being held at one police station in the capital.

The applicant explained that she had allegedly hired out her car to one Ezekiel Mutuku, also known as Macho, before it was linked to the robbery.

She told the court that the detention of her vehicle had left her struggling financially and unable to provide for her family.

She further informed the court that she had purchased the car through a loan.

The applicant pleaded for leniency, insisting she was not part of the crime.

She questioned whether the car needed to remain at the police station, asserting that it did not appear to serve any purpose there.

On the other hand, the investigating officer confirmed to the court that he had been served with the application, but noted that it lacked hearing dates.

He stated that the matter could not be overlooked since it was part of an ongoing robbery investigation.

He revealed that the complainant, Mr. Patel Kashyakumar, had reported being robbed of KSh 999,000.

Narrating the follow-up process, the officer said,

During a search of the vehicle, police recovered several items, including a genuine registration number plate, police uniforms, and tools used in the I &M Bank robbery.

The officer confirmed that the applicant later presented herself at the station, claiming to be a businesswoman engaged in car hire services and provided the records of hiring the car to Mutuku.

In his ruling, Senior Principal Magistrate Benmark Ekhubi directed that the complainant, Mr. Patel Kashyakumar, appear in court on September 17 to identify the vehicle alleged to have blocked him during the robbery.
