Veteran radio personality Njogu wa Njoroge has addressed accusations from his baby mama, Cate Williams, who claimed he neglected their daughter during a critical illness. The allegations went viral on September 18 after popular blogger Githaiga wa Chai leaked WhatsApp chats between Njogu and Williams, suggesting he had failed in his parental responsibilities.
The leaked messages indicated that Williams had created a WhatsApp group to raise funds for their daughterโs hospital admission. One message reportedly read, โThe father abandoned her and even after calling, he declined.โ The posts sparked widespread social media criticism, with many questioning Njoguโs commitment as a parent.
Njogu clarified his side, describing the claims as misleading. He explained that he had already settled the hospital bills directly and that the WhatsApp group was unnecessary. โI never run my private life through social media. I have been in contact with the hospital. Hizo wanachanga ni kakara tu,โ he said. He added that only 15,000 shillings were needed for admission, which he paid personally. โOnly 15k was needed for admission, and I paid directly to the hospital. Hizi zingine WhatsApp groups and online banter, Iโm not part of that life. But wako free kuchanga,โ he noted.
Njogu also sent a direct message to Williams, advising her to keep their child off social media: โShe knows what she is supposed to doโฆ Get the child off social media.โ He addressed fundraisers more broadly on his social media, stating that he verifies medical documents and consults medical experts before making appeals. Despite leading campaigns that raised millions, he emphasized he never asked for facilitation or accepted money from beneficiaries. โUnfortunately, today, some fundraisers seem driven more by โchaiโ than by genuine compassion; collections are made just to have a name announced. But letโs be clear, it is your money, pigweni kakara vile mnataka,โ he said.
This incident follows previous attention Njogu received when it emerged that he was married to gospel artiste Mary Lincoln while already having another wife. The revelation sparked online debate, as Njogu and Mary were considered one of Kenyaโs power couples. The couple later separated, and Mary has since rebuilt her life and was recently ordained into ministry.
Njoguโs clarification aims to set the record straight about his parental responsibilities, emphasizing that he actively ensures his daughter receives care without relying on public fundraising or online attention.
