Harambee Stars will be facing both Gambia and Seychelles in crucial 2026 World Cup qualifiers on home soil following their CHAN 2024 exploits.

The Harambee Stars are set to return to action in September as they continue their bid for a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has confirmed that the Stars will host Gambia on Friday, September 5th, before facing Seychelles on Tuesday, September 9th, with both fixtures scheduled to be played at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

The announcement comes just days after Kenyaโ€™s emotional campaign at the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), where the Starsโ€”led by coach Benni McCarthyโ€”captured the imagination of fans across the country.ย

Despite bowing out at the quarter final stage to Madagascar 4-3 on penalties, the teamโ€™s performances during the group stages were praised for their resilience and togetherness.

Veteran goalkeeper Farouk Shikhalo described the CHAN squad as the best he has ever been part of, crediting McCarthy for instilling belief and camaraderie in the team.

โ€œI have never seen this level of teamwork elsewhere,โ€ Shikhalo said. โ€œThe coach believes in everyone, and this squad has the biggest camaraderie.โ€

That spirit will be crucial as Kenya shifts focus to the World Cup qualifiers.

The FKF has urged fans to turn up in numbers at Kasarani to replicate the electric support seen during CHAN 2024.ย

The federation emphasized that the passion displayed by Kenyan supporters lifted the players in January and will be key as they seek to secure maximum points in September.

โ€œAt CHAN 2024, your passion filled the stadiums and lifted the team. Now, we need that same energy once again,โ€ FKF said in a statement.

Kenya faces a challenging qualification campaign but will be hopeful of making an impact, especially with home advantage against Gambia and Seychelles. They currently sit fourth in Group F on 6 points, with Ivory Coast sitting top of the group on 16 points.

Kenya will have to win all their remaining games and hope other results go in their favor if they are to stand a chance of at least even making the playoffs in November.

These fixtures present an opportunity to build momentum and strengthen their position in the group standings.

With a rejuvenated squad, newfound belief under McCarthy, and a wave of fan support, Harambee Stars head into September with optimism.
