Kenya’s Opposition leaders are too divided to give President William Ruto a run for his money in the 2027 elections.

This is according to a section of leaders allied to Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party drawn from Ukambani region, the home turf of Wiper Patriotic Front leader and opposition principal Kalonzo Musyoka.

Speaking in Mwingi Central on Friday, October 3, just a day after a massive campaign to woo Kalonzo to work with Ruto in Mwingi North, the politicians argued that the opposition was too disorganised to front one strong candidate, let alone mount competition against Ruto.

UDA national organising secretary and Mwala MP Vincent Kawaya, who has been entrusted by Ruto to champion the current administration’s development and political agenda in Ukambani, laughed at the Opposition’s perceived confusion.

He stated that they had run out of time in preparing for the 2027 General Election.

The Kenya Moja Alliance comprises youthful politicians from UDA and Orange Democratic Movement, like Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba, Kitutu Chache MP Anthony Kibagendi, Saboti MP Caleb Amisi, among others, who have been critical of the broad-based government which brings together Opposition leader Raila Odinga and Ruto’s camps.

Kawaya took a swipe at former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua, who has been closely working with Kalonzo and People’s Liberation Party leader Martha Karua in a bid to defeat Ruto in 2027, saying the indecision in the opposition camp was proof enough the incumbent would be reelected.

Nominated senator Beth Syengo, who is eyeing a Woman Representative position in 2027, said the Opposition had nothing to offer, beyond empty talk.

The leaders have been actively courting Kalonzo to join Raila in the broad-based government as part of their strategy to weaken the Opposition’s efforts ahead of the upcoming campaign season.
