Renowned televangelist Pastor Victor Kanyari has spoken out about the heartbreaking loss of his younger sister, Starlet Wahu, who was brutally murdered in January 2024.
During a recent church service, Kanyari shared the deep pain his family continues to endure, recalling a moving conversation with his mother, Lucy Nduta, about the dreams she had for her daughter.
“My mother told me she believed my sister would be with her in old age, but she was killed. She was a celebrity, and my mum thought she would take care of her. Unfortunately, her life was cut short,” Kanyari told his congregation.
Kanyari also explained why the family chose to bury Wahu just three days after her death. Her body was discovered in a South B rental apartment, Nairobi, where she was allegedly killed by John Matara, the prime suspect who is currently in police custody.
“She died on Thursday morning, and by Saturday 8 a.m., we had buried her with only 20 people present. We didn’t want shame or fundraising. Anyone who sent me contributions, I returned the money. I decided I would handle everything myself,” Kanyari revealed.
Reflecting on the tragedy, Kanyari blamed misplaced trust for his sister’s demise.
“The only mistake my sister made was trusting someone she didn’t know. She believed him enough to spend the night with him. Sadly, that man turned out to be a killer. She died at just 24 years old,” he said.
Police investigations revealed condoms and HIV testing kits at the crime scene.
The death of Starlet Wahu has left her family and fans in mourning. Kanyari says the pain remains fresh, but they are relying on faith and strength to move forward.
