The National Police Service (NPS) has issued a traffic advisory ahead of the African Nations Championship (CHAN 2024) matches scheduled for Sunday, 17th August 2025 in Nairobi.

In a statement from NPS, several roads will be temporarily closed and traffic diverted to ease movement around key venues hosting the continental tournament.

โ€œDue to the ongoing African Nations Championship (CHAN 2024), the National Police Service wishes to inform the public of temporary road closures and traffic diversions in Nairobi on Sunday, 17th August 2025.โ€

Roads to be closed include:

Aerodrome Road โ€“ from Madaraka Roundabout to Bunyala Roundabout.

One lane of Langโ€™ata Road โ€“ from Madaraka Roundabout to Lusaka Roundabout.

One lane of Mombasa Road โ€“ from Lusaka Roundabout to Bunyala Roundabout.

There are traffic diversions which include: Mombasa Road to CBD: Motorists should use Likoni Roadโ€“Enterprise Road (near General Motors) or the Southern Bypass (via Ole Sereni).

Motorists using Langโ€™ata Road to CBD have been advised to use Raila Odinga Road or Muhoho Road via Mbagathi Roundabout.

Those using CBD to Thika Road (Ruiru/Juja/Thika) have been advised to use Kiambu Road at Exit 4, with a roadblock set up at Muthaiga.

For Thika Superhighway to Mwiki use Ruakaโ€“Baba Ndogoโ€“Lucky Summerโ€“Nairobi Riverโ€“Mwiki route.

Thika/Juja/Ruiru to CBD motorists to use Northern Bypass or Kiambu Road, with a roadblock at Ruiru Interchange while those coming from Githurai to CBD will use Githurai 44โ€“Kiambu Road.

Motorists driving from CBD to Kasarani Stadium without vehicle access passes will use the service lane at Exit 7 and Exit 8.

Police noted that additional officers will be deployed along the affected roads to guide motorists and manage traffic flow.

The service further warned that stern action would be taken against drivers who disregard the instructions.

โ€œMotorists are urged to cooperate with officers on-site to ensure smooth traffic flow,โ€ read the statement in part.

The CHAN 2024 tournament is expected to attract large crowds, with Nairobi hosting key matches at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.
