A daring carjacking in Kirinyaga has ended with five suspects behind bars after police recovered stolen goods worth over Ksh 5 million in Embu.

The loot โ€” including hundreds of boxes of toothpaste, toothbrushes, detergents, and fabric softeners โ€” was seized in a multi-agency operation in Mutunduri, Embu North.

According to the National Police Service (NPS), the consignment had been hijacked in Gathoge, Kirinyaga County, where a company driver transporting the products was ambushed by armed thugs.

“A multi-agency security operation in Embu North has led to the recovery of a large consignment of Colgate products valued at over Ksh 5.4 million.

“The goods had been stolen during a violent carjacking in the Gathoge area of Kirinyaga County, where a company driver transporting the products was attacked by five armed suspects,” revealed NPS in a statement on Tuesday, September 16.

Acting on a tip-off, officers raided the hideout, recovering the stolen goods and impounding two vehicles believed to have been used in the heist. The five suspects were arrested at the scene and are now in custody awaiting arraignment.

The National Police Service has praised the swift teamwork that led to the recovery and urged Kenyans to keep supporting the fight against crime by sharing information.

“Information can be shared with the nearest police station or anonymously via the hotlines 999, 911, 112, or by using #FichuaKwaDCI on 0800 722 203 or via WhatsApp on 0709 570 000,” added NPS.

On April 23 this year, two suspects were arrested in connection with a daring Ksh17.6 million godown heist at Atlantic Business Park in Embakasi, Nairobi.ย

According to a statement by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the suspects, believed to be the mastermindsย behind the April 20 burglary, were smoked out of a hideout at Scorpion Den Hotel in Ruai by detectives from Embakasi Police Station.

The high-stakes theft unfolded over the Easter weekend, when employees of Aetlantiq Group Limited returned to work only to find their warehousesโ€”Go Downs No. 16 and 17โ€”had been broken into.
