Police in Ol Kalou have launched investigations into the defilement and murder of a 12-year-old girl whose body was found dumped at her grandfatherโ€™s farm on Wednesday.

The girl went missing on Tuesday after leaving her home to buy sugar from a nearby shop. Her grandfather, James Thiongโ€™o, said she was preparing porridge for her mother, who is currently admitted at JM Kariuki Memorial Hospital after giving birth to twins.

โ€œOn that day, I gave her money to go to the shop for sugar before heading to the hospital to visit her mother. When I returned, her younger sister told me she had not come back,โ€ Thiongโ€™o told Inooro TV.

A local shopkeeper, Jane Wanjiru, said the girl purchased several items, including rice worth KSh 60, two pens, and a local confectionery called ngumu. She also asked for a packet of uji flour, which was unavailable, and left to search for it at another shop. That was the last time Wanjiru saw her.

Police officers from Ol Kalou Station documented the scene before transferring the body to a local funeral home. Nyandarua County Police Commander Stella Cherono confirmed that detectives are actively pursuing leads in the case.

โ€œWe have not made any arrests yet, but investigations are ongoing to ensure the perpetrator is brought to justice,โ€ she said.

The incident has shocked the local community, highlighting concerns about child safety and the need for vigilance in public spaces.
