The Private and International Preps Schools Sports Association (PIPSSA) Kenya staged a one-day athletics championship at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani Annex Stadium, on Saturday, October 4th, 2025. About ten schools and clubs lined up for the highly competitive event.
Participating teams included Viraj, Sabis School, Juja Preparatory & Senior School, and Kitengela International.
Over 300 young athletes took to the track in sprints and middle-distance races, displaying speed, stamina, and determination.
Among the brightest talents of the day was Winnie Baraka from Juja Preparatory, featured in multiple events. She thanked PIPSSA Kenya for creating a stage where she could measure herself against her peers and showcase her talent. Winnie dreams of following in the footsteps of Faith Kipyegon.
Fifteen-year-old John Otido from club Essp, lit up the track, successfully defending his crowns in the 100m and 200m races. He credited his victories to relentless training and set his sights on greater heights, aiming to match the explosive Ferdinand Omanyala. He dreams of one day earning a national call-up and flying the Kenyan flag at the Olympics and World Championships.
Collins Kiplagat, head coach at Juja Preparatory, praised the PIPSSA Kenya competitions, describing them as a vital arena where young athletes test their strength, sharpen their skills, and gain valuable experience.
Samuel Maina, representing PIPSSA Kenya, hailed the eventโs strong turnout and used the occasion to rally athletes and fans for the upcoming PIPSSA Kenya National Sports Tournaments in Mombasa next week.
Also present was Athletics Kenya-affiliated coach Geoffrey Macharia, who announced a new program to train 80 young athletes, mainly under 16. The chosen athletes, most from the PIPSSA circuits, will soon undergo specialized sessions with World Athletics officials arriving in the country. The program promises world-class training and certification. Macharia praised Athletics Kenya, particularly youth development director Barnabas Korir, for championing young talent.
In the girlsโ category, Juja Preparatory stole the show with 1,469 points, while Kitengela International claimed second with 939, and Viraj settled for third with 825.
In the boysโ category, Kitengela topped the table with 1,180 points. Juja Preparatory followed with 675, while Viraj came in third.
In the overall standings, Juja Preparatory emerged as champions with 2,144 points, edging Kitengela International, which finished second with 2,119. Viraj completed the podium with 1,300 points.
PIPSSA Kenya now turns its attention to the National Championships, beginning October 11th. These championships feature a wide array of sports, including swimming, soccer, skating, basketball, taekwondo, modern dance, coding, gymnastics, archery, and chess.
