ODM Leader Raila Odinga has met with the party’s Mombasa chairman, Mohamed Hamid Khamis, ahead of the party’s celebration of its 20 years of existence at the coastal city.

According to an update from its X page on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, the regional chair briefed the party leader on the preparations for the crucial function scheduled to take place in October.

“Party Leader @RailaOdinga held consultations with Mohamed Hamid Khamis, the party chairman for Mombasa County and a Member of the County Assembly of Mombasa. He briefed the party leader on the preparations for the #ODMAt20 scheduled for October in Mombasa,” the party statement read.

The meeting forms part of the party’s deliberate effort to not only popularise but also cement its dominance and seek vital feedback and engagement with its supporters.

As part of the 20-year celebrations, ODM has held several events across the country. The party began its engagement at the western region celebrations, which were held on Friday, February 28, 2025.

The function held in Bukiri Primary School in Funyula, Busia County, saw the party leader address the supporters following his abortive bid for the AUC.

Speaking during the party’s 20th anniversary celebration then, Raila acknowledged the high level of anticipation surrounding his next steps but stressed that taking more time for consultations would be in his best interest.

The Mombasa meeting will come after the party, through its Central Committee, resolved to work with President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) in the broad-based government.

In an affirmative voice on Tuesday, 29 July 2025, the party leadership, under Raila’s guidance, met to review the state of the party as well as current developments within its organs and unanimously elected to continue its position under the broad-based arrangement.

“The Central Committee of the Orange Democratic Movement met today, under the leadership of Party Leader Rt Hon Raila Odinga, to review the state of the nation, current developments in the party, and, in particular, the MOU with UDA and support for the Broad-Based Government,” read part of the statement by ODM.

Likewise, the committee, while reviewing the state of the nation, further acknowledged the party’s collaborative decision to have Party leader Raila work closely with the Kenya Kwanza Government, with emphasis on stabilising the country.

“That the party supports the position of Party Leader Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga to work with the Kenya Kwanza administration to stabilise the country and create an enabling environment for Kenyans to address their concerns through democratic and constitutional means,” stated the committee.

The decision came days after the party held its delegates’ meeting chapter for Kakamega County on Friday, July 25, 2025.
