The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has reportedly increased the capacity of Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi ahead of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) quarter-final between Kenya and Madagascar set for Friday, August 22.
While CAF at the time of publishing this story is yet to issue an official statement, reports reaching Viral Tea reveal that CAF had approved an 80 per cent stadium capacity, up from 60 per cent.
This means that up to 38,400 fans will be allowed at the stadium ahead of the highly anticipated match, an increase from 27,000 fans who watched Harambee Stars come away with a 1-0 win over Zambia in the final match of their group stage on Sunday, August 17.
The move follows an appeal by Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya and the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) for Kasarani Stadiumโs capacity to be restored from 60 percent to full capacity.
CAF had earlier capped attendance at 27,000โrepresenting 60 percent of the venueโs capacityโciting repeated and serious security lapses during Harambee Starsโ CHAN 2024 matches.
The 40 percent reduction in fan attendance was one of several measures imposed by CAF to prevent further security breaches and crowd trouble at Kenyaโs fixtures.
