Ryan Ogam: Scary Stats That Should Worry Austrian Bundesliga Defenders

Ryan Ogam is set for his unveiling at Austrian club Wolfsberger AC and his numbers suggest defenders in the league have an extra problem to deal with.

Harambee Stars striker Ryan Ogam is set to finally join his new Austrian club Wolfsberger AC following the conclusion of the international break.

Ogam sealed a move to Europe after his club Tusker FC reached an agreement with Wolfsberger and as he begins a new chapter in his career, his new side will be delighted by his stats while opposition defences will be left in a spot of bother.

The young striker moves to Austria on the back of a good outing for club and country and scored three goals in two games for Harambee Stars during their World Cup qualifiers against The Gambia and Seychelles.

For a player who was just converted from a midfielder into a striker last year, Ogamโ€™s numbers are astonishing, akin to a forward that had been doing it for long.

Before he extended his great run to the national team, Ogam had already scored 15 goals by the halfway point of last season in the FKF Premier League, in what was just his debut season in the top flight before an injury kept him out for three months from February.

That saw him emerge as the leading scorer and the fact that the Golden Boot winner managed 17 goals shows Ogamโ€™s efficiency given he was out for three months after surgery.

Ogam first earned his first Harambee Stars call-up in January 2025 for the Mapinduzi Cup in Zanzibar, where he scored one goal in two matches, with the injury keeping him out of the World Cup qualifiers against The Gambia and Gabon in March as well as the two friendlies with Chad in June.

He recovered just in time for the 2024 African Nations Championships (CHAN 2024) where his form made fans forget the fact that key strikers Moses Shumah and Emmanuel Osoro as well as playmaker Mohammed Bajaber had left camp just days to the tournament after landing moves abroad.

Ogam had a slow start at CHAN 2024, when he played the first game alongside Masoud Juma up front, as Harambee Stars beat RD Congo 1-0 but when he started as the lone striker against Morocco, he scored the only goal as Kenya won 1-0.

He would do the same against Zambia to send Kenya top of the group and in the quarter-final against Madagascar, he had a goal ruled out due to a foul in the build-up when the scores were 1-1 as Benni McCarthyโ€™s men went on to lose on post-match penalties.

What has stood out about Ogam is his clinical edge in and around the box. The striker knows how to position himself in the box to receive the ball and does not hesitate when presented with an opportunity, something that defenders in the Austrian Bundesliga will have to find a way to cope with.

Ogam is also blessed with pace which makes him a lethal weapon on the counter attack and he has been adding headed goals to his collection despite his relatively smaller frame.

Both of these qualities were on display in the recently concluded Harambee Stars matches when he scored the consolation in the 3-1 loss to The Gambia, after a great run and control, before scoring twice and then winning a penalty in the 5-0 thrashing of Seychelles.

Ogam will hope to get opportunities from the start at Wolfsberger and with what he has shown, 15 goals in six months in the league, and six goals in nine national team matches, few will bet against him becoming a success in Austria.
