Safaricom has unveiled a new data bundle service that allows its customers to purchase data bundles based on the time of use rather than quantity (MB/GB).

Dubbed B Live System, the new bundle service was launched in July 2025 and is meant to provide an additional option to cater to customers with different needs.

Customers have the option to purchase bundles covering minutes or hours, depending on the duration they want to stay online.

Co-Op post

The bundles come in a range of one hour to six hours. For one hour, users pay Sh20, Sh30 (1.5 hours), Sh50(3 hours), Sh60 (2 hours), Sh75 (4.5 hours) and Sh150 (6 hours).

The service is set to benefit heavy streamers and downloaders, who can consume unlimited data within their chosen time frame.

NCBA

The new system is reminiscent of the old dial-up era, where charges were based on connection time rather than data volume.

Current data plans

Safaricom currently offers a diverse range of data bundles, including daily, hourly, weekly, and monthly plans starting from as low as Sh5.

The telco also has monthly data packages that allow customers to access between 25โ€“40GB at Sh3,000, and 5G mobile bundles from 15GBโ€“200GB, at between Sh1,000- Sh10,000.
