Mumias East Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Salasya has sparked online buzz after publicly lamenting that he has been denied access to his child by the childโ€™s mother.

Taking to his official Instagram account on Saturday, August 23, 2025, the outspoken legislator revealed his frustrations, saying the mother of his child has refused to let him play a role in raising the youngster despite his desire to be involved.

The Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) first-term lawmaker argues that he has done his best to access the baby, but all has been in vain.

Salasya further hinted at the possibility of seeking legal redress, suggesting that he may move to court to claim his parental rights.

โ€œMama ya mtoto ameninyima huyu mtoto aki nimelia yangu yote. Huyu ni mluhya muwanga, lakini mamake amekatalia. Si basi angeniambia tu nimuzalishe, lakini mtoto atabaki na yeye, ama I sue her,โ€ Salasya lamented.

Loosely translated as: โ€œMy childโ€™s mother has refused to give me access to him; I have tried my best. He is a Luhya from the Wanga community, but his mother has refused to let me see him. She should have just told me that I was only meant to father him, but the child would remain with her. Otherwise, I might sue her.โ€

Salasya has been publicly expressing affection for his infant son, promising to spend quality time with the child, despite never having met him in person since birth.

In a post shared on his X account on Saturday, July 12, 2025, Salasya acknowledged that his son is growing fast and reaffirmed his commitment to being present in his life.

He promised to arrange with the childโ€™s mother to bring the baby home for a traditional hair-shaving ceremony, a moment he hopes will mark their first father-son bonding experience.

โ€œMy boy is growing big. I bless you, my boy Zeven Kalerwa. Sijai kuona tangu uzaliwe lakini nakupenda bure. I will tell your mother to bring you to shave that big hair like mine, my boy,โ€ Salasya expressed.

The lawmaker had previously shared a heartfelt and humorous message about his son.

Taking to his official Instagram account on the night of Wednesday, July 2, 2025, Salasya shared his joy over how fast his son was growing, complete with a playful declaration that heโ€™s willing to cancel his 2027 presidential campaigns just to be there for his little boyโ€™s haircut.

According to Luhya traditions, a child is supposed to be taken to the fatherโ€™s home to have his/her grandmother shave his/her first hair.

โ€œMy boy is growing big ooooh. This is so beautiful. Aki nywele imekuwa kubwa mulete home. I am going to cancel my presidential campaigns to make sure wananyoa yeye nikikuwa the moment mamake anamuleta,โ€ Salasya wrote on Instagram.
