Serena Williams and her husband, Alexis Ohanian, have negotiated with their daughter, Olympia, to make her work for a weekly payment.
Alexis Ohanian, a Reddit founder, shared on his X account their negotiation with Olympia, explaining that Serena acted as the witness and a mediator during the contract agreement with their daughter.
He said their daughter will earn $7 (Ksh 904) weekly as an allowance for her house chores, such as making her bed, feeding the dog and putting her clothes in the hamper.

However, Serena and her husband explained that their main goal is to teach their daughter about the value of money and how people get paid.
โYes, Olympiaโs got a contract. $7/week allowanceโnegotiated by her mom (who somehow got her weekends off). Feed the dog, clothes in the hamper, make her bed, get paid. Weโre trying to build the muscle: work = reward. Good things come when you work for it,โ he shared on his X account.
In the video, Alexis revealed that he and Serena didnโt grow up with wealth, but they worked for it until they earned it.
โNeither Serena nor I grew up with wealth, so weโre both trying to navigate how to create the circumstances for her to be able to be a functional adult while also having the resources that we couldnโt have imagined,โ he said.
He added that his main goal is to teach their daughter the patience and pain people endure at work before getting paid.
โI need her to feel that little bit of pain of like, โUgh, I gotta wait two more weeks for that paycheck and then start to remember that โbecause I do this work, I get this money,โโ he said.
