While popular radio host Mwalimu Rachel secured them well-paying gigs at the time, the group assumed that money would keep flowing endlessly and did not plan for the future.
When Sailors Gang eventually split, Shalkido was left struggling financially.
He tried almost every hustle to support his young family, from riding boda bodas to doing construction jobs, but none worked for him.
The musician recalled a tough moment when he told his wife to return to her motherโs place and decided to leave their house after constant conflicts with the caretaker.

Shalkido blasts Terence Creative for offering advice while he’s broke: “Umenisadia na nini?”
The artiste added that long before this incident, he had even attempted to end his life several times, once by drinking poison and another time by throwing himself onto a busy road from a footbridge.
After the watchman incident, he again contemplated taking his life, but a friend unknowingly stopped him after he made away with his coat, in which he had a rope he intended to use.
It was after this that he shared his story with a local Instagram blog, which amplified it and drew public attention to his struggles.
His story touched many, including comedian Eric Omondi, who gifted him a motorcycle, and Oga Obinna, who hosted him on his show.

Obinna not only helped him settle in a fully furnished house but also supported him in securing an ambassadorial deal.
Shalkido has since expressed his heartfelt gratitude to those who stepped in to support him after he shared his story, saying their kindness gave him a lifeline when he had almost given up on life.

During an interview with Obinna, Shalkido accused Terence Creative of bashing him at his lowest point.
However, Terence clarified that his message had been directed at the wider entertainment industry, not Shalkido, and urged him to adjust his attitude.
In response, Shalkido shared a heartfelt video asking for forgiveness.
