The Kenya Moja Alliance has announced plans to join forces with like-minded opposition leaders to build a formidable political front aimed at blocking President William Ruto’s re-election bid in 2027.
Speaking during a church service at Jesus Teaching Ministries in Embakasi East yesterday, the MPs revealed that more than 70 legislators had declared interest in joining the alliance — signalling what they described as the rise of a new political force.
Led by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, the leaders declared they were “fired up” ahead of the next general election, vowing that not even the broad-based government would derail their ambitions of providing alternative leadership.
Kitutu Chache South MP Anthony Kibagendi said the alliance would reach out to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Governor George Natembeya, and former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i to consolidate opposition strength.
“We have decided to walk together to save our nation from the hands of the Kenya Kwanza regime. To beat the current government, we must unite. That is why I’m appealing to my colleagues to bring on board leaders like Kalonzo, Gachagua, Natembeya, and Matiang’i so that we may rescue our country,” Mr Kibagendi said.
The MP, who previously served as Youth Director in the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), accused President Ruto of failing Kenyans through punitive taxes and policies that have made the cost of living unbearable for the majority.
Senator Sifuna said members of the Kenya Moja Alliance were facing threats from the current administration but vowed to remain steadfast as they built the movement.
“We have said that, come what may, we will stay together. We are ready to risk our lives for the agenda we believe in. We will not be silent while watching wrong things happen in our country,” Mr Sifuna said.
He added that President Ruto’s recent claim that Parliament was a “corruption zone” was aimed at silencing leaders opposed to the broad-based government.
“Those noises were meant for us. Some people claim we are not capable of leading this country. We want to tell them that God gave you those positions, and He can also lift others into leadership,” Mr Sifuna remarked.
Mr Owino challenged President Ruto to fight graft within his office before targeting others.
“For you to deal with corruption, start with your house — deal with the people walking with you daily. Otherwise, we see corruption in you. Instead of forming a multi-agency team, appoint men and women of God who are blameless to fight corruption,” he said.
Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba criticised Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen for failing to provide answers on the Kware killings and other deaths linked to Gen Z-led demonstrations.
There was also drama during the service when Saboti MP Caleb Amisi was left embarrassed after Pastor Manyuru declined his Sh100,000 donation.
“I know some of you are attending this church for the first time since we announced that we will not be receiving money from MPs, lest people say we are being bribed. Instead, as a ministry, we are willing to support your fundraising directly,” Pastor Manyuru said.
Other leaders present included Kaiti MP Joshua Kimilu, Bomachoge Borabu MP Obadiah Barongo, Kitutu Masaba MP Clive Gisairo, as well as several MCAs.
