Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has launched a blistering attack on the government, accusing it of presiding over massive theft through the Social Health Authority (SHA), the eCitizen platform, and even the education sector while real institutions collapse under neglect.

Speaking during a church service at Jesus Teaching Ministry (JTM) in Donholm, Embakasi East, on Sunday, August 24, 2025, Sifuna said corruption within SHA had reached alarming levels. He cited the closure of St. Maryโ€™s Hospital in Mumias, where he was born, as a stark example of government failure, noting that while genuine facilities struggle with debt, billions are funneled to ghost hospitals.

Badala walipe St. Maryโ€™s Mumias, wanalipa hospitali ambazo haziexist,โ€ he charged.

His remarks came after the Rural and Urban Private Hospitals Association of Kenya (RUPHA) warned that weak regulation and budget cuts at the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) had allowed SHA to channel money into fraudulent facilities. The concerns followed reports that SHA had disbursed Ksh20 million to a non-existent hospital in Homa Bay, an allegation the authority later denied.

Sifuna linked the scandal to broader governance failures, pointing to irregularities in the eCitizen payment system. He claimed that the platform had become another avenue for siphoning billions of shillings without accountability.

โ€œWakati ya mbako eCitizen inapoteza bilioni zaidi ya arobaini, wanataka tunyamaze tu. Tukizungumunda, waratuambia tutawanyorosha. Lakini kabla watunyoroshe, Mwenyezi Mungu atakuwa amewanyoroshe,โ€ the Senator declared.

The ODM Secretary General further widened his criticism to the education sector, alleging that money meant for school capitation was also being stolen under the watch of government officials. He accused the administration of punishing those who speak up while protecting those involved in graft.

โ€œWakati tunasema pesa za capitation za shule zikiibiwa, wanataka tusiseme. Lakini hatutanyamaza,โ€ he insisted.

Sifuna vowed to continue exposing corruption, warning that Kenyans would not remain silent while vital services such as health and education suffer due to systemic theft.

โ€œWe will not keep quiet when things go wrong. Those who are plotting against us will not succeed. We are going through these things because we have refused to kneel to Nebuchadnezzar. We are the ones who have said that bad is bad. We are the ones who have said we are ready to die for the things we believe in. As leaders who lead Godโ€™s creatures, we cannot see things going wrong in our nation and then remain silent just because we will be cowards,โ€ Sifuna said.
