Standard Chartered Bank Kenya has begun the process of verifying details of 629 former employees set to benefit from a multibillion-shilling pension payout, after a Supreme Court ruling earlier this month closed the final avenue of appeal for the bank.

On September 8, Standard Chartered said it is committed to meeting the pension obligations. โ€œWe have initiated a structured process to execute the judgement in accordance with the legal requirements and are committed to maintaining open communication with affected pensioners,โ€ the bank said.

It also sought to calm market concerns, that it is โ€œadequately capitalised to meet the anticipated obligations.โ€

The Supreme Court ruling of September 5, 2025, closed the final avenue of appeal for the bank, confirming RBATโ€™s authority in pension disputes and ending a two-decade legal battle. The verification exercise now clears the path for long-delayed payments to be disbursed.
