Sudan defeated Algeria 4-2 on penalties in Zanzibar to advance to the semi-finals of the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) PAMOJA 2024, where they will face Madagascar.

The cagey encounter saw Sudan take the lead in the 48th minute after Algeria’s defender Ayoub Ghezala put the ball into his own net, before Algeria replied in the dying minutes to force the match into extra time.

After the two sides remained inseparable for 120 minutes, Sudan converted four spot kicks, while Algeria managed only two.

Sudan’s victory secures their third-ever CHAN semi-final appearance, and they will now face Madagascar at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam on Tuesday, 26 August, at 5:30 pm.

The 2nd semi-final will pit two-time champions Morocco against the defending champions, Senegal, at 8:30 pm.
