Swansea City pulled off a shocking 3-2 comeback victory against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup after scoring twice in the final moments of added time. 

Forest had led 2-0 at the half, thanks to two goals from new signing Igor Jesus. 

However, Swansea captain Cameron Burgess started the rally and then scored the dramatic winner in the 97th minute, just moments after Zan Vipotnik had equalized. 

The defeat is a major blow for new Forest manager Ange Postecoglou, who is still looking for his first win and must quickly fix his team’s defensive errors.

Nottingham Forest, with boss Ange Postecoglou making several changes to his squad, looked comfortable early on. 

New £10 million signing Igor Jesus scored his first two goals for the club, netting in the 15th minute and again just before halftime to give the Premier League team a commanding 2-0 lead. 

Forest showed glimpses of the quick, attacking play Postecoglou is known for, but the second half saw their control slip away.

Swansea’s fightback began in the 68th minute when Australian defender Cameron Burgess, who was also named captain for the night, headed home a corner to make the score 2-1. 

The home crowd sensed a shift in momentum, which grew into full-blown pandemonium in the closing moments of the game.

The drama peaked deep into the added time. 

Substitute Zan Vipotnik, a Slovenian striker who has been in great goalscoring form for the Swans, leveled the score at 2-2 in the 93rd minute, flicking home a low cross. 

With the game seemingly headed for a penalty shootout, Burgess became the unlikely hero in the 97th minute.

After a corner was cleared, teammate Ethan Galbraith fired a powerful shot that crashed against the crossbar. 

Burgess pounced on the rebound and smashed a low volley into the net, completing his first-ever career brace and sending the stadium into celebration. 

The win marked Swansea’s first cup triumph over Premier League opposition since 2014.

For Ange Postecoglou, who recently took over at Nottingham Forest, the loss highlighted deep-seated issues within his new squad. 

The Australian coach watched in horror as his team surrendered a two-goal lead, a pattern his former Tottenham teams were not known for.

Postecoglou, who started his Forest career with a 3-0 Premier League defeat at Arsenal, admitted his players got “comfortable” with the lead and paid a “heavy price” for failing to finish the game when they had chances. 

The defeat, which saw his side concede five goals in two games, puts immediate pressure on the manager to quickly instill his high-tempo style and a stronger defensive focus before their upcoming Premier League match against Burnley. 

For Swansea, however, the incredible comeback provides a massive morale boost as they continue their Championship campaign.
