Trans Nzoia Senator Allan Chesang has called on the government to involve digital content creators in communicating national development projects.

Speaking at the official launch of Konza Technopolis on Thursday, 11 September, Senator Chesang said content creators, especially those with large online audiences, could play a key role in explaining government initiatives to the public. As Chair of the Senate ICT Committee, he described the move as both a strategic communication tool and a way to empower young people through digital opportunities.ย

โ€œLet us use content creators to talk about government projects, policies, and Konza to Kenyans, especially the youth,โ€ he said.

Konza Technopolis, located about 60 kilometres south of Nairobi, is a flagship project under Kenyaโ€™s Vision 2030. Planned as a smart city and innovation hub, the 5,000-acre site will feature green energy systems, affordable housing, research facilities, and infrastructure for businesses and conferences.ย

The project is designed to support Kenyaโ€™s shift towards a knowledge-based economy. ICT Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo also addressed the event, reaffirming the governmentโ€™s commitment to establishing Konza as a leading centre for technology, tourism, and investment in Africa.ย

He said the projectโ€™s success would depend on effective collaboration between public and private sectors and across government agencies. In July, the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority approved the creation of the Konza National Drone Corridor, the countryโ€™s first regulated airspace for drone testing and long-range flights.ย

The corridor, which will be managed by a dedicated operations coordinator, is intended to support innovation in unmanned aerial technology while maintaining strict safety and regulatory standards. The integration of digital platforms, youth participation, and emerging technologies at Konza is part of a wider strategy to use innovation as a driver of economic growth and civic engagement.
