Trans Nzoia County’s Elimu Bursary Fund has been hailed as it enters its final phase today (Friday) with cheque disbursements scheduled in Matumbei, Keiyo and Cherengany Suwerwa wards.

The programme has reached thousands of learners across all 25 wards, delivering on Governor George Natembeya’s pledge to make education accessible to needy students. The bursary specifically targets those in day schools to ensure uninterrupted learning.

Speaking during cheque issuance in Chepchoina ward, Endebess Sub-County, County Executive Committee Member for Education and Vocational Training, Janerose Nasimiyu Mutama, credited the programme’s success to strong coordination among local leaders, ward bursary committees, administrators, school heads and parents.

“This kind of cooperation has enabled us to reach thousands of deserving students across the county,” she said.

Mutama commended education officials who braved rough terrain and heavy rains to deliver cheques directly to schools. She said their commitment ensured timely support for beneficiaries.

Students who missed the exercise have been advised to collect their cheques from the education department’s offices starting Monday, stating that a customer care desk will be set up at the department’s social hall to assist them.

“Every deserving student must get their support. If you missed your cheque, visit our offices next week and we will sort you out,” Mutama said.

She reaffirmed Governor Natembeya’s commitment to education, describing it as the “great equaliser,” and urged the National Assembly to protect counties’ ability to support learners through bursaries.

“If counties are denied this role, the future of our children is at risk,” she said.

The final phase of the bursary drive concludes tomorrow, marking the end of a countywide initiative that has touched thousands of lives.
