Two people lost their lives in Juja after a water tank they were repairing collapsed, while another worker is in critical condition and receiving treatment at a hospital in Thika.

According to Juja Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Daniel Ndege, the incident occurred yesterday while five employees from the Pulp and Paper Company were repairing the tank.

The structure, made of iron sheets and supported by concrete pillars, collapsed during the repairs.

He also stated that inspectors from the Kiambu County Government are on the scene to investigate the cause of the accident.

Preliminary findings suggest that the concrete pillars supporting the tank were weakened.

According to a police report obtained by Citizen.Digital, the tank’s pillar supporters failed.

The tank curved and trapped three people, two of whom died on the spot and the third was rushed to Naindu Hospital in Makongeni Thika.

The DCC added that investigations into the structural safety of other buildings in the subcounty would continue.

Efforts by journalists to access the scene were unsuccessful, as the factoryโ€™s management declined to address the media, requesting more time.
