The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has called on interested candidates to register for nominations ahead of the upcoming by-elections.
In a statement issued on Thursday, August 14, the ruling party announced that the nominations will be held on September 20.
The party further urged interested aspirants to register via its online portal, which will remain open from August 14 to September 5.
“Notice is hereby given that the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party nominations shall be held on 20th September 2025. Interested candidates are encouraged to apply for nomination by registering through the UDA party portal accessible atย www.uda.ke,” the statement read in part.
“The registration period will commence on August 14, 2025 and close on September 5, 2025, at 5:00 pm.”
Nomination fees for aspirants seeking the Member of County Assembly (MCA) seat have been set at Ksh50,000 for male candidates and Ksh25,000 for female, youth, and persons with disabilities (PWDs).
Male aspirants for the Member of Parliament (MP) position will pay Ksh250,000, while female candidates, youth, and PWDs will be charged Ksh125,000. The same fee structure applies to candidates seeking the Baringo senatorial seat. All payments are non-refundable and must be made to the party via mobile money or a designated bank account.
As previously announced by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), the by-elections are scheduled for November 27, 2025, giving nominated candidates at least two months to campaign after the September 20 nominations.
Over 20 electoral areas will participate, including Baringo County, where a new senator will be elected following the death of Senator William Cheptumo on February 16.
At the constituency level, by-elections will take place in Kasipul, Malava, Banissa, Mbeere North, Magarini, and Ugunja to replace, among others, the late Charles Ongโondo Were and Malulu Injendi.
Most vacancies are at the ward level, with 17 MCA seats up for grabs. These include Angata Nanyokie Ward in Samburu County, Chemundu/Kapngโetuny Ward in Nandi County, Chewani Ward in Tana River County, Fafi Ward in Garissa County, Kariobangi North Ward in Nairobi City County, and Kisa East Ward in Kakamega County.
Other wards with vacancies are Kabuchai/Chwele in Bungoma County, Metkei in Elgeyo Marakwet County, Mumbuni North in Machakos County, Narok Town in Narok County, Purko in Kajiado County, Tembelio in Uasin Gishu County, Nyansiongo, Nyamaiya, and Ekerenyo in Nyamira County, as well as Lake Zone and Nanaam wards in Turkana County.
Political parties seeking to take part in the by-electionsย must submit the names andย specimen signatures of their authorised representatives, as well as the names and dates of their party primaries, by Wednesday, September 17, 2025.
Public officers intending to contest are required to resign from their positions within seven days of the notice. The IEBC will then publish the names and dates of party primaries in the gazette within a week of receiving them.
Independent candidates must not have been affiliated with any political party for at least three months before the election date. They are also required to submit their names and symbols for nomination purposes by September 17, 2025.
