Paris Saint-Germain completed their set of European trophies after they beat Tottenham Hotspur to win the UEFA Super Cup on August 13.

The game, which was held at the Bluenergy Stadium – Stadio Friuli in Udine, Italy, was a dramatic one after PSG pulled a late smash-and-grab.
The French giants qualified for the one-off final after thrashing Inter Milan to win their maiden Champions League title in May. Tottenham, on the other hand, beat Manchester United in the Europa League final.
The North Londoners sacked their manager, Ange Postecoglou, shortly after the final and brought in Thomas Frank from Brentford.

The Dane enjoyed a quick start to his competitive spell as a Spurs manager as goals from Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero gave them a surprise 2-0 lead.
PSG, who only resumed training six days ago after their prolonged participation in the Club World Cup, were lethargic at the start. Both Spurs goals came from corner routines.
Luis Enrique’s side, however, grew into the game and scored twice in the last five minutes, including a stoppage-time goal from Goncalo Ramos to force penalties.
In the penalties, Vitinha missed the first pen for PSG, but new goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier spared his blushes after he saved Van de Ven’s effort. Mathys Tel then missed his penalty kick before Nuno Mendes scored the winning goal.
Despite winning the trophy, PSG won’t be allowed to take the trophy they lifted back to France. UEFA has some strict rules that the winners of their competitions must follow.

Article 9 of the Regulations of the Super Cup explains that the winning team will be handed a different trophy from the one they lifted.
The one UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin gave PSG captain Marquinhos is to be kept by the governing body at all times.
At the same time, the winning club must ensure that the trophy is in their control at all times and doesn’t leave the club’s country without prior permission from UEFA.
