Nairobi, Kenya โ€“ August 16, 2025 โ€” First Daughter Charlene Ruto has sparked mixed reactions online after a video of her dancing at an International Youth Day event went viral.

The event, held on Monday, August 12, 2025, brought together young people to celebrate the annual global observance dedicated to the role of youth in shaping a better future.

This yearโ€™s theme, โ€œLocal Youth Actions for the SDGs and Beyond,โ€ highlighted the importance of grassroots initiatives and reinforced the message that real transformation begins within local communities.

Charlene, who is also the founder of the Smachs Foundation, actively participated in the celebrations, joining young people on stage.

A video shared on social media shows Charlene dressed in a white t-shirt, blue jeans, and white sneakers as she danced to a popular Lingala track by Awilo Longomba.

Surrounded by energetic youths, Charlene confidently led from the front, moving to the rhythm before pulling off a showstopper dance move that sent the crowd into loud cheers.

While some Kenyans praised her for embracing youth culture and connecting with the younger generation, others criticized her, arguing that public figures should carry themselves with more restraint.

Nevertheless, Charlene has increasingly positioned herself as a youth ambassador, often engaging in events that spotlight innovation, entrepreneurship, and civic leadership among young people.
