A photo of President Ruto and his predecessor Uhuru Kenyatta on August 1st 2025 has created a buzz among Kenyans online and offline.

In the photographs the two leaders were seen warmly shaking hands in a rare show since the 2022 general elections in the State House.

This gesture, it is understood, has excited the Kenya Kwanza diehards online with some claiming that the handshake is powerful considering the country will be going for an election in about two years’ time.

According to Kenya Kwanza supporters, this is a positive meeting between Uhuru and Ruto who have been reading from different scripts since the last elections.

But what took the fourth President, Uhuru to the State House is meeting in Nairobi to deliberate on the progress made in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) peace process in which he is the facilitator.

“Tycoons meeting for a serious meeting then jokers will meet to incite the poor,” Joshua Miruka observed on Facebook

Another follower wrote, “We will still ignore Uhuru like we did in 2022 if he chooses that route,”

The meeting is co-chaired by President William Ruto of Kenya, who is the EAC chairman, and President Emerson Mnangagwa of Zimbabwe, who is the SADC chairman.

Uhuru attended the meeting in his capacity as the facilitator of the peace process.
