National Assembly Speaker Dr. Moses Wetang’ula on Monday announced that he held talks with Koichiro Gemba, the Vice Speaker of Japan’s House of Representatives, aimed at deepening parliamentary cooperation between Kenya and Japan.
In a statement posted on his official X account, Wetang’ula said the meeting focused on enhancing parliamentary diplomacy and strengthening the friendship between the two legislatures through mutual interests and shared best practices. He emphasized that the engagement would help improve service delivery in both countries.
“We agreed to strengthen and empower our friendship through areas of mutual interest for our two nations and best practices that can be utilized to improve service delivery,” Wetang’ula wrote.
The Speaker noted that Kenya and Japan enjoy a longstanding diplomatic relationship spanning key sectors such as infrastructure, medical research, fiscal development, and trade.
He acknowledged Japan’s significant contribution to Kenya’s industrial growth through investment in trade and development initiatives.
The meeting forms part of Kenya’s broader efforts to expand international partnerships through legislative diplomacy.
The timing of the engagement reflects Kenya’s continued interest in attracting strategic investment and knowledge exchange from global partners, particularly in technology, infrastructure, and governance.
