The Ministry of Education has issued the revised academic calendar for Term 3 as schools reopen for the final stretch of the 2025 school year.
Released by the Office of the Principal Secretary for Basic Education, the calendar outlines key dates for institutions nationwide.
The calendar includes national assessments such as the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA), Kenya Intermediate Level Education Assessment (KILEA), Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA), and the Kenya Pre-Vocational Level Education Assessment (KPLEA).
The third term officially began on Monday, August 25, 2025, and will run until Friday, October 24, lasting nine weeks.ย While it is the shortest term of the year, it is also the most critical as it coincides with national examinations.
Schools have been instructed to follow the set timelines strictly to ensure uniformity in learning and assessments nationwide.
Two public holidays fall within the term โ Mazingira Day on Friday, October 10, and Mashujaa Day on Monday, October 20 โ giving learners two long weekends.
The KPSEA for Grade 6 learners will run from October 27 to October 30.
The KILEA, targeting learners with special needs, will take place from October 27 to October 31.
Both the KJSEA and KPLEA will be held from October 27 to November 6.
These assessments are central to evaluating learner progress under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) and guiding transitions to higher levels of learning.
For secondary schools, the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams for Form Four candidates are set for November 3โ21, spanning 18 days.
Schools will close for the December holiday starting October 27, with the break lasting until January 2, 2026 โ a 10-week recess.
As directed in previous circulars, Term 3 will remain a restricted period, with all non-essential activities and school visits suspended to ensure minimal disruptions during exams.
