WhatsApp is preparing to launch a game-changing feature aimed at tackling a common issueโforgetting to reply to messages.
With the app being central to both personal and professional communication, conversations can easily slip through the cracks. The new message reminders tool seeks to fix that by allowing users to set alerts for specific texts that donโt need an immediate response.
Currently in testing for a small group of iOS users, the feature doesnโt require the beta app, hinting at a phased rollout.
To use it, users can long-press a message, choose the reminder option from the menu, and receive a notification at the scheduled timeโsimilar to a calendar alert.
When active, a bell icon appears on the message bubble. Once the reminder goes off, WhatsApp sends a notification with the full message, media previews, and chat details.
Importantly, all reminders are stored locally on the device, keeping the data private from WhatsApp and other chat participants. To keep the interface clean, reminders disappear automatically once delivered.
For heavy WhatsApp users, the feature will be a convenient way to handle follow-ups, tasks, and urgent information without third-party apps.
This update follows the recent introduction of Guest Chats, which lets WhatsApp users message non-users via an invite link.
Recipients can open the link in a browser and chat without downloading the app or creating an account, functioning much like WhatsApp Web. Though still in beta (Android version 2.25.22.13), the feature points to an imminent public release.
On June 16, WhatsApp unveiled a series of new features aimed atย enhancing the Updates tab, home to both Channels and Status. The new features are designed to expandย discovery, monetisation, and business engagement, without interfering with personal conversations.
As WhatsApp continues to refine its platform with new features, users are encouraged to keep their apps updated to access the latest features.
