This is after President William Ruto announced plans to construct 25 new stadiums across the country.

The president made the pledge on Thursday, August 28, while hosting Harambee Stars players for a luncheon at State House, Nairobi.

He said the ambitious programme would be delivered in time for the continental tournament, as part of a broader effort to strengthen Kenyaโ€™s position in African football.

The head of state stressed that building a competitive national team required immediate investment at the grassroots.

He promised to work with private sector players, including banks and betting agencies, to pool resources and ensure sports remains a strong unifier in the country.

Ruto added that Kenya would tap into its youthful talent base, highlighting the success of the Talanta Hela Initiative started under former Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba.

He said the programme had already empowered young people to monetise their skills and pursue careers in sport.

The president further disclosed that the government is reviewing the Sports Policy of 2005 and the Sports Act of 2013 to create a more transparent and commercially viable sports ecosystem.

The reforms, he explained, would address governance, athlete welfare, doping control and the integration of technology in modern sports management.

Ruto urged more corporate organisations to support the countryโ€™s preparations, saying the success of Kenyaโ€™s sporting future would depend on strong partnerships.
