A 41-year-old woman has been arrested at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) while attempting to smuggle cocaine to Dubai.
Detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit intercepted the suspect, identified as Anna Nekesa Kisaka, just minutes before her flight was scheduled to depart.
According to police, Nekesa had concealed several pellets of cocaine inside her body in an attempt to evade airport security.
However, her plan failed when officers flagged her for an additional screening based on intelligence reports and suspicion during routine checks.
Scans later confirmed she was carrying the illicit substance internally. Under medical supervision, the suspect excreted three pellets of cocaine, confirming detectivesโ suspicions about her method of concealment.
Police say Nekesa is currently in custody as investigations continue. She is expected to be arraigned once the probe is complete.
Authorities have in recent years intensified surveillance at airports to curb international drug trafficking, with several cases of couriers arrested while attempting to smuggle narcotics through internal concealment.
