Kelvin Kiptum, who held the world marathon record, died in a tragic road accident on February 11, 2024, in the Kaptagat forest area along the Eldoret-Ravine road.

According to Elgeyo Marakwet County Police Commander Peter Mulinge, the then 24-year-old athlete was driving a Toyota Premio when he lost control, veered off the road, entered a ditch 60 meters away, and crashed into a tree.
