There was a dramatic confrontation in Embakasi after a matatu driver attacked two police officers in two incidents, leaving them injured and hospitalised. The suspect, Jared Nyanduro, is now in custody awaiting arraignment.

The incident began when Traffic Officer Jackline Naeku flagged down an Embassava Sacco vehicle driven by Nyanduro. She discovered that the vehicle was operating without a valid road service license and ordered the driver to proceed to Embakasi Police Station.

Instead of complying, Nyanduro sped off recklessly. He hit a parked car, then rammed into flower vases near a Rubis Police Station, escalating the chaos.

It went south when Nyanduro alighted from the vehicle and physically attacked Officer Naeku. Witnesses stated he kicked her and punched her, causing injuries to her eye, ribs, collar bone, and leg.

โ€œShe managed to come out of the vehicle and the driver followed her and started beating her with kicks and blows. She sustained some injuries on the left eye, ribs, collar bone, left leg and teeth bite on the left hand. She was rescued by members of the public before a police officer came and took the suspect to Embakasi Police Station,โ€ read part of a police report.

Members of the public intervened to rescue the injured officer and facilitated Nyanduroโ€™s arrest.

Even after his arrest, Nyanduro did not calm down. During a routine search at the station, he attacked Senior Sergeant Samuel Njuguna, biting his hand before fellow officers subdued him.

Both Naeku and Njuguna were rushed to hospital for treatment. Police confirmed they are in stable condition.

Nyanduro remains in custody at Embakasi Police Station and will be taken to court as soon as investigations are over.
