President William Ruto has hailed teachers as Kenya’s “greatest resource and patriots,” praising their dedication to shaping the future of the nation.

Speaking at State House, where he hosted over 10,000 teachers, the President reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening the education sector to produce a competent workforce that will drive Kenya’s transformation agenda.

President Ruto highlighted key milestones achieved over the past three years, including a historic increase in the education budget from KSh 540 billion to KSh 702 billion the largest in Kenya’s history.

He noted that his government had resolved concerns over the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), ensuring clarity and a smooth transition for learners.

To address teacher shortages, the government has recruited 76,000 teachers and plans to increase this number to 100,000 by January to improve the teacher-student ratio nationwide.

Additionally, 23,000 new classrooms have been built to accommodate growing student numbers.

The President also lauded the establishment of the Open University of Kenya and the rollout of a new student-centered higher education funding model designed to support learners while channeling more resources to universities and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions.

President Ruto reiterated that investing in education remains central to his administration’s agenda, saying it is the key to unlocking Kenya’s human capital potential and achieving sustainable economic growth.
